Hasbro Scrabble V1 Hard-Drive Installation Note: Advanced users may want to try uninstalling their current game before proceeding. It's always a good idea to do backups and to make sure you don't delete system files if uninstalling. I've used the steps below to install the game on both Win95 and WinME machines with no problems. Rename your current Hasbro V1 Scrabble folder (default location C:\scrabble) to OLDSCRABBLE. If you get a warning that this might affect the program, just say yes and rename the folder anyhow. Create a new folder on your hard drive, I've called my folder MAVEN. With your Scrabble CD in the drive, open Windows explorer or file manager and click on your CD drive in the left window pane. The files in the SCRABBLE folder (shown in the right pane below) are the only files you'll need to copy to the new MAVEN folder you made earlier. Drag the SCRABBLE folder from the Hasbro CD to the new MAVEN folder you created before. You can also right-click and drag the folder to its destination choosing "Copy Here" from the menu that comes up. About 100 megabytes will be copied. Depending on your system, it might take a minute or two. Here is another picture:

Redo your Scrabble shortcut by right clicking the Scrabble icon Remove the CD from your drive and try initiating a game; if it works, you can delete the OLDSCRABBLE folder. Advanced users may also want to install the color-fix patch. This patch allows you to run the game in color modes greater than 256. Just download the patch and unzip its contents to your C:\MAVEN\SCRABBLE\ folder (or to wherever your Scrabble game is installed), saying yes to file overwrite prompts. |
